Wireless World Research Forum (WWRF)

Identification of visions on strategic future research directions in the wireless field with the focus on the definition of research topic for a new broadband air interface.

Selection of completed projects

Physical Layer DVB Transmission Optimisation (PLUTO, EU IST project)

PLUTO will research and develop novel techniques for broadcast transmitter networks that will minimise the complexity and power consumption of end user equipment. These techniques, Transmitter Diversity and Low Cost On-Channel Repeaters, will improve reception in areas of poor coverage such as for mobile reception, indoors and sparsely populated or obscured locations.

Galileo Receivers for Mass Market (GREAT, GJU project)

The GREAT project is developing the advanced technologies required for the next generation of positioning receivers - to be used with the new Galileo Global Navigation Satellite System.

Wireless World Initiative New Radio (WINNER, EU IST project)

The aim of WINNER is to develop a ubiquitous radio system concept covering the full range of scenarios from short range to wide area networks providing significant improvements compared to current systems in terms of performance, efficiency and coverage flexibility.

Network of Excellence in Wireless Communications (NEWCOM, EU IST Network of Excellence)

Strengthening, development and integration of research in the field of mobile and wireless systems beyond 3G.

Spectrum and Power Efficient Broadband Communications (COST project 289)

Increase the capacity of communication systems within a specified transmission bandwidth with minimum available transmitter power, bearing in mind the cost effectiveness and the practical implementability of the system.

4G MC-CDMA Multiple Antenna System on Chip for Radio Enhancements (4MORE, EU IST project)

Development and prototyping of a low power system on chip solution for multi-antenna MC-CDMA mobile terminals based on joint optimisation of layer 1 and layer 2 functions.

Broadband Air Interface for 4G Mobile Radio Systems (DoCoMo project)

Design and analysis of an OFDM based air interface for future broadband mobile radio systems with data rates up to 100 Mbit/s. The system design has its focus on the physical layer. The underlying multiple access scheme is an adaptive MC-CDMA realization.

Spread Spectrum Systems and Techniques in Wireless and Wired Communications (COST project 262)

Analysis and design of MC-SS, DS-SS, and FFH-SS systems.

Multimedia Car Platform (MCP, EU IST project)

The purpose of the MCP is to offer new communication, navigation and entertainment services for car drivers and passengers.

Multimedia Communications on Integrated Networks and Terminals (MINT, BMBF project)

Design and realization of service and system concepts as well as transmission schemes particularly with regard to wireless inhouse networks.

Analysis of digital radio systems using COFDM (ANCO, RegTP project)

Analysis of the effects from disturbing radio systems on the performance of a DAB system, taking into account the mobile radio reception in an isolated as well as in a single frequency network.

DCS-1800 in High Speed Trains

Analysis of the influence of high velocities of the mobile users in a GSM/DCS-1800 system on the system performance.

CDMA Compatibility (RegTP project)

Study with the focus on the effects of disturbing radio systems on CDMA systems.

Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting (dTTb, EU RACE project) and Hierarchical Digital TeleVision

Transmission (HDTVT, BMBF project) Design of the air interface for the European DVB-T standard particularly with regard to the frame structure, channel coding and modulation.

Code Division Testbed (CoDiT, EU RACE project)

Design of a system concept and implementation in a testbed of a 3rd generation terrestrial mobile radio system.
